“When I’m not running after deadlines, I’m running late for events organized by the Office of Graduate Affairs.”  At least, that was the thought racing through my mind when I was navigating my way to Chelsea Piers before the last […]

I woke up this morning and realized that I am a law student. It’s official.

Taking a lesson from Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, I attempt to decipher the clues about what lies ahead in the daunting first-year experience.

Sure, I may get a thrill seeing Will Smith walking the streets of New York City. But that compares nothing to how a law student feels hearing Stephen Breyer or Clarence Thomas speak.

It is all too easy to retreat from life and forget who you were before law school. One student tells how she refused to succumb to the peer pressure of 24/7 studying.

I understand that my life reads like a brochure for the law school; but how can I not take advantage of this embarrassment of riches? We’re lucky to be in a place that keeps us so busy. I’ll sacrifice sleep for that.

When I first arrived at NYU Law, I attended Law Women’s 1L Mixer. I was curious about the organization that represents 47% of the NYU Law student body. Little did I know how central this group would become to my law school experience.

This past week I performed in NYU Law’s inaugural production of The Vagina Monologues. Eve Ensler’s now iconic stage show is put on by many organizations as a part of annual “V-Day” festivities,” a global movement designed to end violence against women and girls.

In January, I auditioned on a whim for NYU Law’s inaugural production of The Vagina Monologues. I had no idea that it would be such a success, or that I would have so much fun being a part of the cast.

About two weeks ago, I attended the Public Interest Law Center (PILC) Career Fair at NYU Law, a two-day event attended by hundreds of public service employers and thousands of students, resumes in hand, zealously foraging for coveted summer jobs. Sounds like a pretty low-key affair, right?

The best advocacy that I’ve seen in law school was done outside the courtroom, before students rather than judges. Last week, I watched Burt Neuborne, Inez Milholland Professor of Civil Liberties, debate Kelly Shackelford of the Liberty Legal Institute.
