The Legal Wellness Institute provides civil legal services to New Yorkers affected by serious illness and severe disability. We practice in housing law, public benefits and healthcare access, family law, and lifetime planning. As part of a multidisciplinary organization, lawyers work with social workers, counselors, and others to help clients achieve stability.
We provide holistic legal representation, working across multiple areas of law to help clients resolve interconnected legal problems. To reach our ill and disabled clients, we go to them. Our legal team goes to clients’ homes, hospitals, hospices, or anywhere else a client can meet safely and comfortably, throughout all of NYC.*
Our Internship Program
Interns help us serve some of NYC’s most vulnerable residents through client intake, meetings, and interviews; legal research; drafting pleadings and briefs; filing in courts and administrative offices; and assisting with off-site clinics and presentations. All interns receive significant training and work with clients in each of our practice areas.
Interns attend client meetings, court appearances, and administrative hearings throughout NYC.* With our Special Practice Orders, law students can appear in court on the record with attorney supervision.
Summer interns work full-time for at least 10 weeks.
Semester Interns are expected to work 12-15 hours per week.
*Please note that for Spring and Summer 2021, internships may be fully or partially remote, with meetings, appearances, and hearings mostly occurring by telephone and videoconference.
Send an email with your resume, cover letter, and a brief writing sample to firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com. Please include the words “Legal Internship” in the email subject line. Applications are considered on a rolling basis.
