Applications are open to attend this year’s joint NYU/UBA conference, “The Challenges of Big Tech: Implications for Regulation, Privacy, and Democracy,” held at the Universidad de Buenos Aires Facultad de Derecho in Buenos Aires, Argentina on May 28 and 29, 2020.
The deadline for this application is Friday, March 13.
Funding will be provided to cover the cost of roundtrip flight and three nights’ accommodation in Buenos Aires, as well as international insurance coverage for the duration of stay. Students will be responsible for procuring a tourist visa for Argentina, and for covering any costs associated with the visa.
Students selected will be expected to attend the conference for its full duration and participate in any associated activities, including conference meals and receptions. For additional details regarding this year’s conference, refer to the previous Docket post here; a full itinerary will be available toward early April.
Participants are not expected to present original research, but may have the option to get involved through panel moderation and commentary. No language skills are required. The conference will be held in English and Spanish with simultaneous interpretation provided.
1Ls and 2Ls are eligible to apply, with LLMs and other graduate students on a case-by-case basis. Visiting and non-matriculated students are not eligible.
Preference will be given to students who can demonstrate a sustained interest in the topic based on past academic, personal or professional experience, and those who can make a strong case that attending the conference will contribute to their academic and professional development.
Student applicants are encouraged to consider building in this opportunity with their current academic program or extracurricular activities at NYU Law, including but not limited to independent research or written work; prior or future coursework; participation in study abroad or clinics; and membership in student groups and activist organizations.
Submit an application HERE. Students will be required to submit a resume, transcript and brief personal statement detailing their interest in attending the conference, as well as the name of a faculty character reference, by Friday, March 13, 2020. Students selected to attend will be notified by Friday, March 27, 2020 and must provide confirmation of attendance by Friday, April 10, 2020. Flights and accommodation in Argentina will be booked thereafter.
