Feb. 22: Know Your Rights Conference at Touro Law Center

Posted on

The New York State Division of Human Rights cordially invites you to our upcoming Know Your Rights conference in Suffolk County. The event is scheduled for February 22, 2019, and will run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It will take place at Touro Law Center, located at 225 Eastview Drive, Central Islip, NY 11722 at the Faculty Conference Room.

The Division is the state agency charged with enforcing the NYS Human Rights Law, which protects against discrimination in employment, housing, credit, places of public accommodation, and non-sectarian educational institutions, based on race, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, military status, and other protected classes. In addition to enforcing the Law, the Division educates the public about these rights and about the process of filing complaints.

This outreach and education event will focus on the Latino and immigrant community in Suffolk County. We will outline the protections that exist under the Law, as well as the steps and resources available to combat discrimination. Two Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits will be offered on Immigrant Rights and the new state Anti-Sexual Harassment guidelines. Light refreshments will be served. The program is free and open to the public.

To register, please email RSVP@dhr.ny.gov or call (718) 741-8301. If you need an accommodation for disability, please contact John Herrion at John.Herrion@dhr.ny.gov or (718) 741-8332.
