2019 ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources Writing Competition

The ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources is sponsoring four writing competitions open to any law students enrolled in law school during the academic year of competition. Students can submit papers previously written for academic credit and the winners will receive cash awards, recognition on various ABA social media, and often the opportunity to publish in committee newsletters or on ABA webpages. For more information on the four competitions this year please see below:

  • Water Resources Law: Entries for the Competition should demonstrate original thought on a question of legal and/or policy significance on any issue related to water resources law. This would include, but not be limited to, issues under the federal Clean Water Act, state water laws, or any relevant case law relating to either federal or state water law issues. Submissions may advocate a position, educate the reader, or analyze one or more cases. The decision of whether a particular essay qualifies as to subject matter is entirely within the discretion of the Section.
  • Entry Deadline: May 31, 2019
  • Official Rules
  • Endangered Species: Entries for the Competition should demonstrate original thought on a question of legal and/or policy significance on any issue related to the Endangered Species Act, wildlife law, and natural resources.
  • Entry Deadline: May 16, 2019
  • Official Rules
  • Energy Law: Entries for this Competition should demonstrate original thought on a question of legal and/or policy significance on any issue related to energy law.
  • Entry Deadline: May 17, 2019
  • Official Rules
  • Public Land and Resources:Entries for the Competition should demonstrate original thought on a question of legal and/or policy significance relating to the topic of public land and resources law.
