Roadways to the Bench: Who Me? A Bankruptcy or Magistrate Judge?:
Time: 4-6:30 pm, with reception to follow
Location: U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York
225 Cadman Plaza East, Brooklyn, NY

Roadways to the Bench is a national diversity event led by the Judicial Conference Committees on the Administration of the Bankruptcy System and the Magistrate Judges System, with the goal of attracting a broad and diverse pool of qualified applicants to the federal bankruptcy and magistrate judge benches.

The program will start with a nationwide simulcast presentation by a panel of judges, followed by small group in-person roundtable discussions between judges and participants. Over 50 judges from within the Second Circuit are expected to participate in the event. A reception will follow the formal program.

Interested lawyers and law students are invited to observe a national panel discussion and participate in local roundtables with bankruptcy, magistrate, district, and appellate judges about pathways to the federal bench.

The panel, which will be moderated by Judge Carl E. Stewart (5th Cir.), is comprised of Judge Stephanie Dawkins Davis (6th Cir.), who previously served as a district judge from 2019 to 2022 and as a magistrate judge from 2016 to 2019; Judge Laura Taylor Swain (S.D.N.Y.), who previously served as a bankruptcy judge from 1996 to 2000; Judge Kesha Lynn Tanabe (Bankr. D. Minn.), a current bankruptcy judge; and Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai (D. Or.), a current magistrate judge.

Registration will be open from February 6 to March 20. All participants must register in advance, and registration is limited due to space constraints. Because we anticipate spots will fill up quickly, interested individuals should register as soon as possible. Please use the following link for registration: https://tinyurl.com/RoadwaysConference
