You are invited to attend the annual OUTLaw Alumni Reception on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in D’Agostino Hall, Martin Lipton Hall, located at 108 West Third Street. This event provides a wonderful opportunity to meet and reconnect with other OUTLaw alumni and students. This year, the OUTLaw Alumna of the Year Award will be presented to Leslie Cooper ’95, senior staff attorney, ACLU LGBT & HIV Project, for her exceptional contributions to the LGBTQ community.
Immediately preceding the alumni reception, you are also invited to attend a panel discussion titled, “Beyond the Binary: Legal Implications of Third Gender Options.” The panel discussion will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will take place in the Joseph and Gwendolyn Straus Faculty Club of D’Agostino Hall. The discussion will focus on the recent laws that passed, establishing a third gender option, and the bill currently under review in New York for a third gender option on IDs. As more states recognize multiple genders, legal protections based on a gender binary will prove to be inadequate. Drawing from intersex and transgender activism, this panel will explore the effects of the legal recognition of a third gender on constitutional classification based on sex and how we litigate sex-based discrimination.
