If you are still considering adding an Option A writing credit or a Directed Research to your spring 2022 schedule, please note that the deadline to do so is Tuesday, February 15, 2022. As COURSES is no longer available to add or drop spring 2022 classes; please use the Law Registrar’s Service Desk to submit a request for an add or drop. See more instructions on our Subsequent Registration Cycles page.
Writing Credit for a Seminar or Colloquium:
Option A writing credit can be used to satisfy the J.D. Substantial Writing Requirement. For detailed information about the J.D. Substantial Writing Requirement and a list of classes that satisfy this requirement, please see our Substantial Writing Requirements web page.
To add Directed Research, a written proposal which has been signed by the supervising professor must be submitted via the Law Registrar’s Service Desk. The written proposal ordinarily is at least 1,000 words double-spaced and should describe the subject matter of the Directed Research and the issues the student intends to explore in the paper. (Please note that adjunct professors can only supervise Directed Research with the approval of the Vice Dean.) Please check the Directed Research web page for more detailed information regarding the procedures to register for Directed Research.
The staff in Academic Services (JDs) and the Office of Graduate Affairs (LLMs) will be happy to answer any questions you may have about this process.
