STUDENT FINANCIAL SERVICES

Student Financial Services

Welcome back. We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer.

We wanted to give you some information about a few financial aid topics that might be helpful to you as you start the academic year.

Loan Refund Checks
As many of you know, refund checks are currently being processed and sent out by the Bursar’s office. Refund checks are mailed to a student’s LOCAL address. If no local address is on file, the check will be sent to the student’s permanent address. Please be sure to update your address on ALBERT, NYU’s student information system. You may access ALBERT through NYUHome.

If you have direct deposit set up and completed your loan applications on time, your funds may have already reached your bank account. To set up direct deposit, visit the NYU Bursar’s Web site to download a direct deposit enrollment form. Direct deposit will remain in effect during your entire course of study at NYU (provided your bank account information does not change).

Additionally, if you are perplexed by the amount of your refund or unsure about the amount of your loan disbursements, we encourage you to check your Bursar account summary (again, by accessing ALBERT through NYUHome). If something looks inconsistent on your account, please contact us.

Bursar and Billing
The Bursar generates monthly statements through the E-Bill system according to a monthly schedule. Students can access E-Bill through ALBERT via NYUHome.

As indicated, E-Bill is a monthly billing statement. If you recently made a payment, it may not yet be reflected on your E-Bill. However, to verify payments in real-time, students should login to ALBERT via NYUHome.

Payment may be made using any of the methods listed on the Bursar Web site. For additional information or questions, you may also contact the Bursar.

Loans
If your loans have not yet been received and credited to your Bursar account, we recommend contacting your lender to confirm the status of your loans. If your lender is waiting for school certification, please let us know so we can review your account to make any necessary updates to our records. You can also review the current status of your loans by logging into NetPartner and clicking on the “Awards” tab.

Students who have not yet applied for loans should closely review and follow the 5-Step loan application process.

Recordkeeping
We cannot overemphasize the importance of maintaining complete financial aid records. It is a good habit to keep a copy of all important correspondence; it will save you time and money later. Students should keep a folder that includes:

  • Copies of IRS 1040 forms with all schedules
  • Copies of all loan applications/promissory notes
  • Copies of all correspondence with our office, your lenders, and guarantee agencies

Students are encouraged to track their borrowing throughout law school. This information will be useful to you as you are making career choices and estimating your monthly loan payments upon graduation. Our office is available to assist students in calculating loan payments.

Obtain a copy of your current credit report. We recommend reviewing your credit report each year that you are in law school. Monitoring your credit will allow you to foresee and correct any incorrect information.
