Research assistant positions with Professor Philip Alston, UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions
Research assistants are sought by Professor Philip Alston to work with him in connection with his U.N. mandate on extrajudicial executions. Assistants will research unlawful killings in the Central African Republic and Brazil, which will involve reviewing developments in each country over the past two years, extensive communication with international and domestic NGOs, and the preparation of a draft report on each country to the UN Human Rights Council. Assistants are also sought to work on research related to the legality of targeted killings (e.g. drone attacks against suspected al Qaeda members in Pakistan), and on an academic text reviewing the law and policy of extrajudicial executions in international law.
Both J.D. and LL.M. students are invited to apply. Successful applications will have exceptional communication, research and writing skills, and a demonstrated commitment to human rights. French or Portuguese language skills are an advantage, but not required.
