RESEARCH ASSISTANTS NEEDED

Professor Nevins-Saunders Seeks Research Assistant—Immediate Need for Spring Part-Time and Summer Full-Time

Elizabeth Nevins-Saunders seeks immediate (part-time) and summer (full-time, if possible) research assistance on an article due for publication this August. The pending article argues that the strict liability standard for statutory rape is inappropriate when applied to defendants with mental retardation. Research assistance is required on a variety of topics involving criminal law and/or mental health/cognitive disabilities. Research will likely address both legal and policy issues related to competency, sex offender management, sexual consent, juvenile justice, and cognitive disabilities. Responsibilities will also include assistance with footnotes and bluebooking, as well as conceptual work for subsequent research projects.

Qualifications: Strong research, writing, and Bluebooking skills. Interest in criminal law or mental health/mental retardation issues is preferred, but not required. Professor Nevins-Saunders’s background is in criminal defense and the overlap between criminal defense and mental health; someone interested in entering either of those fields would be particularly well-suited to this position. Preference given to individuals who can start immediately and then continue work into the summer.
Approximate Dates of Employment: Immediately, through August 15 (negotiable).

Number of Hours Per Week: Approximately 10 hours per week during semester (negotiable); 40 hours per week during summer (negotiable).
Materials to Submit in Application: Résumé, cover letter, writing sample, transcript

Deadline for Submission: Rolling
