D’Agostino Hall Composting Program
Residence Services, as part of its ”Green Living“ program, has partnered with the NYU Composting Initiative (Winner of a 2008 Green Grant) to institute composting pilot program in D’Agostino Hall. We have launched a program that makes composting simple and easy for all of our residents.
We hope to expand the program to Mercer Residence for the 2009-10 Academic Year.
Why Compost
Quite simply, by composting, you can help the environment. The organic waste you put back into the environment can be made use of by other living things. It also allows you to recycle things that might have otherwise polluted a landfill or created toxic smoke in a garbage burning facility.
How To Compost
A small, tan compost bin has been placed in each D’Agostino Hall apartment. Please place all compostable materials (see list below) in this bin. Once the bin is full, empty it into the large, green compost bin located by the elevators on each residential floor, next to the blue Mixed Recyclable Bin. A paper bag or newspaper may be used to line the bin in your apartment and disposed of in the hallway compost bin. Plastic bags cannot be placed in the compost bins.
