If you are interested in taking the upcoming February 2018 New York State Bar Exam, the on-line application for the exam is now available at http://www.nybarexam.org/. All online applications must be received through the BOLE online system between November 1, 2017 and November 30, 2017. If you fail to register by the deadline, you will not be allowed to sit for the February bar.
While completing the NY bar application you will be asked to answer questions based on the courses you took here at NYU School of Law. This information will be used to create your “JD Certificate of Attendance”. The Certificate of Attendance will be sent to the Office of Records and Registration for us to certify. Review of your Degree Progress Report, transcript and the attached instructions may be helpful in completing the certificate. Instructions on how to complete the certificate can be found here, http://www.nybarexam.org/forms/JDCertofAttendanceInstructions.pdf.
After the application period closes, the bar will email you the “Specimen of Applicant’s Handwriting Form”. You must submit the “State Bar Request Form” and a “Specimen of Applicant’s Handwriting Form” to the Office of Records and Registration, Furman Hall Room 400. The “State Bar Request Form” is available at http://www.law.nyu.edu/recordsandregistration/barexams/. Please DO NOT complete the “Specimen of Applicant’s Handwriting Form” until you are in the presence of a staff member of the Office of Records & Registration. The deadline to submit these forms to our office is January 16, 2018.
LLM students who are required to complete a LL.M. degree at an ABA-approved law school in the United States must complete a “LLM Certificate of Attendance Form” in addition to the “State Bar Request Form” and “Specimen of Applicant’s Handwriting Form”. The LLM Certificate of Attendance Form is available at http://www.nybarexam.org/Foreign/NYSBOLE_LLMSchoolCert_FillableForm.pdf.
At this time, we strongly suggest you read the New York State Board Rule 6000.9 on Fraud, Dishonesty, and Other Misconduct. All applicants who do not comply with this rule will be penalized. This rule and other notices from NYS are available here, http://www.law.nyu.edu/recordsandregistration/barexams/noticefromnysboardoflawexaminers
