Journal of International Law and Politics: Annual Symposium

 

You are cordially invited to attend the annual symposium of the New York University Journal of International Law and Politics (JILP) to be co-hosted by the Institute for International Law and Justice (IILJ), the International Law Society and the German Academic Exchange Service and Deutsches Haus at NYU.
The event will take place on Tuesday, October 28 and Wednesday, October 29. This year’s event, “The Normalizing of Adjudication in Complex International Governance Regimes: Patterns, Possibilities and Problems,” will explore various issues confronting the international judiciary. The symposium will feature many notable judges and scholars, including our keynote speaker, Judge Bruno Simma of the International Court of Justice.
All events will be held on the NYU School of Law campus.
The following is the tentative schedule for the two day event:

Tuesday, October 28

5:30-5:35 p.m. Opening Remarks, Clay Kaminsky, editor-in-chief, Journal of International Law and Politics
5:35-7:30 p.m. Panel I: “International Adjudication and Global Policymaking: Crafting Roles and Limits of the WTO and International Criminal Tribunals”
Moderator: Donald Donovan (New York University; partner, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP)
Presentation: Joseph Weiler will present the paper authored by Robert Howse and Ruti Teitel entitled “Cross-judging: Tribunalization in a Fragmented but Interconnected Global Order.” This paper explores connections, parallels, contact points and dissonances between increasing adjudication in international criminal law/human rights and international trade/investment.
