Dean’s Roundtable with Jared Kushner ‘07, Principal of Kushner Companies and Chairman and Publisher of the Observer Media Group
Regularly during the school year, the dean hosts roundtable discussions with prominent guests who have utilized their law degrees in a variety of nontraditional ways. Over lunch with a small group of students, guests speak autobiographically about their work experiences, sharing valuable insight about how they found their chosen path. Please note that the roundtables are informal and off-the-record.
Jared Kushner ‘07, who will be the dean’s guest on Thursday, November 20, is a principal of Kushner Companies and the chairman and publisher of the Observer Media Group.
Jared began his career in real estate at age 19 while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in government studies at Harvard University. To date, he has been involved in over $4.5 billion worth of real estate purchases. At Kushner Companies, Jared oversees a diversified private real estate organization involved in the ownership, redevelopment and management of prime single and multifamily housing, commercial, retail, industrial and hotel properties throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. In January 2007, Kushner Companies closed on the purchase of 666 Fifth Avenue for $1.8 billion, the largest single-building transaction in the country.
Jared is also the chairman and publisher of the Observer Media Group, which includes in its holdings the New York Observer, a weekly newspaper which covers the city’s culture, real estate, media, politics and the entertainment and publishing industries, as well as Politicker.com, a Web site that covers national news and local politics for 16 states. Politicker.com has plans for expanding their coverage to more states in the near future.
Jared is actively involved in several professional, cultural and public service organizations. He is on the Board of Governors for the Real Estate Board of New York, the Board of Advisers for the CUNY School of Journalism and the New York Public Library Young Lions Committee, and he has held various leadership roles for the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces and UJA-Federation, among other organizations.
Jared received a bachelor’s degree with honors from Harvard University in 2003, and a J.D. and M.B.A. from NYU in 2007.
The dean’s roundtables are open to 18 interested NYU School of Law J.D. and graduate students. In order to achieve a representational mix of students, we will designate a proportionate number of seats to J.D. students and graduate students, respectively, to be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The roundtables will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Snow Dining Room, on the fourth floor of Vanderbilt Hall. Lunch will be served. If you would like to attend a roundtable, please sign up in advance by calling Penelope Fernandes at (212) 998-6003 or by emailing her at penelope.fernandes@nyu.edu. Please indicate whether you are a J.D. or graduate student, and whether you have any dietary restrictions.
