Dean’s Roundtable with Sean O. Burton, Esq. ’97, President and Chief Operating Officer of CityView on Thursday, April 16, 2009
Regularly during the school year, the dean hosts roundtable discussions with prominent guests who have utilized their law degrees in a variety of nontraditional ways. Over lunch with a small group of students, guests speak autobiographically about their work experiences, sharing valuable insight about how they found their chosen path. Please note that the roundtables are informal and off-the-record.

CityView is an institutional investor which manages over $745 million of public pension fund capital for investment in urban housing for working families throughout the United States. He also was an attorney in the real estate and corporate groups at O’Melveny & Myers, LLP. During the Clinton administration, Sean served in the White House and with the Democratic National Convention.

In 2001, he was appointed by Governor Gray Davis to sit on the California Commission on Tax Policy and the New Economy, where he took a leading role in advocating structural changes in the California State fiscal and budgetary process. Sean recently was appointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to serve as a City of Los Angeles Planning Commissioner.
He is a Trustee at the John Thomas Dye School, a board member of the West Los Angeles Little League, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute’s Board of Governors. In order to achieve a representational mix of students, we will designate a proportionate number of seats to J.D. students and graduate students, respectively, to be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The roundtables will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Snow Dining Room, on the fourth floor of Vanderbilt Hall. Lunch will be served.
