Counterterrorism and National Security Summer Fellowship
Center on Law and Security Counterterrorism and National Security Summer Fellowship Guidelines
This year, the position commences on June 1 and terminates on July 31. The Center will select two candidates to participate in the summer fellowship.
Fellows will work on the Center’s Terrorism Trial Report Card to track the progress of domestic terrorism-related prosecutions, with the aim of assessing the U.S. war on terror and understanding the elements of U.S. counterterrorism at the level of law enforcement and the courts. Fellows will also take on additional responsibility in at least one of the Center’s three program areas: Domestic Security, Global Law and Security, and Special Projects. The Domestic Security Program examines and recommends national security policy related to constitutional issues, government reform, emergency powers and the relationship between the public and private sectors in the wake of 9/11; the Global Law and Security Program convenes world leaders, practitioners and experts in the field of security to define the issues and enhance the effectiveness of global counterterrorism through the use of law; and the Special Projects Program focuses on issues related to the Middle East, the crisis within Islam and the conflicts between Western societies and radical Islamic fundamentalism. The goal of the Center’s special projects is to enhance policy discussion among law enforcement, government, social groups and Muslim communities.
Successful applicants will have a demonstrated interest in counterterrorism and national security issues as well as familiarity with criminal law, constitutional law, criminal procedure and international law. English is required. Knowledge of Arabic or Spanish is desirable but not required.
