Exam Policies and Procedures To…

Overview

Consult this site to locate exam policies and procedures, identify support services during this stressful time, find available study spaces, and locate free coffee. We wish you all the best for the Spring 2013 exam period!

Exam Policies and Procedures

To ensure you comply with all exam policies and procedures, please consult the Academic Services Exam Information webpage.
Special Circumstances Impacting Performance

The Office of Student Affairs is available to assist you with various challenges that may impact students’ performance this time of year. Examples include: death of a family member, onset of illness (physical and/or mental), and need for exam accommodations beyond what is available through the Office of Academic Services. Under these special circumstances, the Office of Student Affairs will work with the Office of Academic Services to assist you. To request an exam postponement or accommodation, please click here, and submit an email explaining your request, to the Office of Student Affairs in Furman Hall, Suite 474 or via e-mail at law.studentaffairs@nyu.edu. Please note that all requests are kept confidential.

Illness Before or During an Exam

If you become ill prior to the day of an exam, you must contact one of the following offices:
• Records and Registration (FH 400, law.registration@nyu.edu)
• Academic Services (FH 400, law.acadservices@nyu.edu)
• Student Affairs Office (FH 474, law.studentaffairs@nyu.edu )

If you become ill on the day of an exam and believe you will not be able to complete it, do not begin the examination. Immediately report your illness to the proctor who will send you to the appropriate administrative office.

If you become ill after starting the exam, also report it to the proctor immediately. For more information, consult the Student Handbook, Section F., page 23, Examinations. Click here to view the handbook.

Ensuring Laptop Compliance

Don’t risk losing critical time during your exam. Make sure to take the Practice Exam with this exam period’s version of the Exam4 software. If you are non-compliant after 2pm on Tuesday, May 7th, you will lose any downtime during an exam due to laptop problems. Plan ahead and get your laptop compliant today.

Study Spaces

Classroom Spaces

Please check the signs in the lobby of Vanderbilt Hall and Furman Hall each day to see which classrooms are available as study space, but also know that there are designated Quiet Study Rooms for the exam period.

SBA Study Rooms

The SBA oversees the reservation process of the group study rooms (312, 320, 322, and 336) in Furman Hall. They are available for use from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. by making a request here: https://its.law.nyu.edu/groupstudy/.

The SBA requests that you understand the following:
• Group study room priority usage is for groups of 2 or more people with proof of advance reservation.
• The rooms may be booked up to seven days in advance and are available for 2 hours per session per group per day.
• Group study room users without reservations must vacate the room when requested by a group with proof of valid reservation.
• There is a ten-minute grace period for reservations. If the group (2 or more people) is not present within the grace period, the reservation is invalid, and another group may use the room. If you have an irresolvable conflict regarding a room reservation you should see the public safety officer at the front desk.

Monday, April 15, 2013 | 12:25 PM – 1:50 PM
Vanderbilt Hall, Tishman Auditorium

Annually, representatives from the NYU journals and the Moot Court Board hold information sessions for 1Ls explaining the mechanics of the annual writing competition from which new staff members are chosen. During these sessions, students from each journal and the Moot Court Board will introduce you to their respective programs and offer insight into their selection process. You will leave the meetings with valuable information to help you decide whether you want to participate in the competition and how you will rank the various programs when asked to express your preferences. Additionally, we will explain the Journal Matching System (JMS — the software that manages the writing competition), registration process, and application time line.

These meetings, therefore, are mandatory if you intend to apply.
