Immunization Requirements
New York State Public Health Law 2165 requires all college students registering for six or more credits in a degree-granting program to provide immunization documentation for measles (rubeola), mumps and rubella (German measles) prior to registration. Students born before January 1, 1957 are exempt.
New York State Public Health Law 2167 requires institutions, including colleges and universities, to distribute information about meningococcal disease and vaccination to all students registered for six or more credits, whether they live on- or off-campus. All students registered for six or more credits are required to decide whether or not to be immunized for meningitis and to provide formal confirmation of their decision.
First-year students who have not complied with the above two requirements will have HOLDS/STOPS on their records and will not be able to participate in the first-year elective lottery unless they are compliant by November 1. All other students who are not in compliance have been blocked from participating in Spring 2009 add/drop registration.
Further, all students who have not complied with the above immunization requirements, which were required to be met before classes began on August 27, have also had HOLDS/STOPS placed on their records and registration activities.
Immunization information can be found on the New York University Student Health Center’s Web site here.
